Paid Amount vs Transaction Amount in Analytics

Hi, all-

I see in the documentation for the finance cube the definitions for ticket paid amount and transaction amount, but I am wondering why these would be different?

Can anyone please elaborate why I might see a difference between the two?

Thanks!

Rachel

Ticket Paid Amount

The sum of all purchase, refund, and change transaction amounts for a ticket (SLI).
Ticket Purchase Amount The amount from purchase transactions for a ticket (SLI). This value excludes amounts from refund and change transactions. Added v15.1.10
Ticket Refund Amount The amount from refund transactions for a ticket (SLI), formatted as a positive number. This value excludes amounts from purchase and change transactions (such as when applying the refund amount directly to other tickets or contributions). Added v15.1.10
Transaction Amount The total transaction amount.

  • An important thing to keep in mind is that not all transactions involve tickets. So for example, if a transaction is a contribution, the transaction amount will be whatever it is and the ticket paid will be zero. If a transaction is a ticket purchase, then the cont amt would be zero, and the transaction amt and ticket paid amt would be whatever they are. The exact reason for differences in what you're seeing depends on a bit on your filters and how you're grouping the data, but hopefully that sheds some light on why both measures are in there and why they're not necessarily interchangeable.

  • Thank you! Your explanation is quite helpful.

For this particular case, it ended up being unposted batches which were being excluded in the transaction amount, but included in the paid amount.

    Thanks for everyone's help!
