Cumulative donations tracking on Analytics

Hi TAFFY,

Can anyone suggest a formula that I could use in a pivot table to identify donors who have given cumulative donations that totalled a certain amount?

  • Hi Olivia,

Apply whatever date or campaign or fund type filters to the dashboard or widget are necessary to appropriately limit the scope of giving you need to. Then in a Pivot widget, add Constituent ID and/or Name in the Rows area, and in the Values add the Amount field as a Sum (it may appear as [Total Amount]). Then hover your mouse over that value and click the funnel to filter by that amount, and using the Values type filter, set it to > your certain amount.

  • Thanks for getting in touch Chris.

I'm hoping to identify donors who may give multiple times, with the cumulative amount of these multiple donations adding up to a specific amount, eg, if someone were to give a total of £100 over five different donations to a single appeal. I think your pivot widget above only identifies donors who have given one donation over a certain amount. Do you know if there is a way to identify those who give multiple times, with a corresponding total amount value?

  • Hi Olivia,

The pivot table as aggregated above filters on the resulting total amount within each constituent, rather than on the amount of the individual gifts. To filter on individual gift size, then instead of filtering from the Value Total Amount, one would click Add on the Widget Filter, select Amount, and filter on that.

  • Thanks for clarifying Chris.

So just to confirm, the pivot table above is a mix of constituents who make an individual one-time gift greater than 5000 and constituents who have made multiple gifts wholes total comes to more than 5000. Is there a way to separate the data to highlight only those who donate on multiple occasions?

  • INDEED!

Here it is expanded to show the number of contributions within each row, along with the min, max, average, and median amount for each constituent. Note the 2 constituents with min amounts of $100 within  the Total Amount for those constituents.

Alternatively, adding a Widget Filter directly on Amount, and setting that to >= 5000, removes any contributions that are < 5000 from the results, and note those same two constituents now have a min contribution amount of 5000, and their Total Amounts are reduced to reflect those filtered contributions.

    Best,
    Chris
