Plan Ask Remaining Formula

Hi there,

I'm working on a pivot table in the Plans cube that calculates the remaining Plan Asks we have outstanding for the year. I'm able to simply subtract Contribution Amount and Recorded Amount from Plan Ask

(( [Total Ask Amount]  - [Total Contribution Amount]  -  [Total Recorded Amount] )  )

... but that gives me a number that sums both Unrenewed donor's Plan Asks (who I want) AND ALSO factors in Renewed Donors who just have a value difference between their Ask and what they actually gave. So if someone Decreases or Increases, the variance is included in the number, when I only want Asks for donors who haven't renewed at all.

I also tried filtering to only Plans with Contributed Amount = 0, but because we record our Soft credits amounts in Plans Recorded Amount, I'd need it to filter it Contributed Amount = 0 OR Recorded Amount = 0 and I'm not sure how to make that work.

Any ideas? Has anyone created this kind of view of their Plan Asks before?

  • Hi Lily, would it work to add one of these filters to your widget?

    1. If you assign memberships to your donors, you could add Current Membership Expiration Date to filter out anyone who has an expiration date after a certain date, or you could add "Is Member" (if you have that configured for your organization) to filter out anyone whose membership is expired.

    2. If you update your plan statuses once they give, you could filter out certain statuses through Most Recent Plan Status.

    3. Along those same lines, if you add certain steps once they give, you could filter by Step Type.

I hope one of those is helpful.

Hi Lyndsi! It took me a while to get back to this with everything going on right now, but I ended filtering by Plan Status, thank you for the recommendation! I needed to do an audit and update some statuses in SSRS, but now they are up to date and I have scheduled a weekly report to tell me which ones needed to be updated as new gifts come in.
