Hi all:
I have come up against a roadblock in our testing for V11 in terms of household searching. Often, I have to look for an individual who is part of a household and so in V11, I tried searching for the last name of a person who is the A2 of a household record with only the "Households" box checked on the search screen and it came back with no results. When I tried this again with the last name of the A1 affiliate of the record, I was able to find the household.
Does anyone know a reason as to why we can only search for the A1 affiliate of a household in household searches? I would like to be able to only include households in my search if I know that the individual is a member of a household as it makes it a lot easier to find them in the search screen.
All of these affiliates have their name in the household name and are primarily affiliated. I have double-checked that the A2 affiliates were all properly affiliated with the “include in search results” box checked, so I don’t know why they can only be searched for as individuals. We have a number of households with different A1 and A2 last names, so this would make searching for people much easier.
Any ideas that you have would be much appreciated!
Cheers,
Laine
Thanks for the clarification. I am just wondering if it will ever be possible for us to truly use the searches to find only households with a certain last name.
For instance, in our test database, I have a household with the name of “Ryan Gosling and Laine Kyllonen Household”. I was hoping that the added search functions would mean that I could search only for “Kyllonen” and have just the household box checked and would receive results for only households with “Kyllonen” in the name. This would mean that I wouldn’t have to wade through the other individual people with the last name of “Kyllonen” or the individual records for those people with “Kyllonen” as a last name who are in a household. This would certainly streamline the search process for a number of my constituents who I know are in a household. I ask simply because the majority of our data and transactions are going to live in the household, so finding the household record more quickly would be very helpful.
For now, I will certainly keep both boxes checked. I am just hoping that in the future we will be able to do this to eliminate some of the search results since the collapse option in search is not sticky and therefore it takes extra time to click that every time I am searching for a constituent record.
Any input that you have would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Lanie,
The constituent search searches on household name and sort name on the household, and by default the sort name is the last name and first name of the A1 record (that format is defined in tr_salutation_format). In general I would recommend searching on both household and individual . For individuals with a household you will then be able to access their household from the expanded tree in the search results.
Best,
Anna

Hi Laine -
This is a workaround idea, but it would be pretty simple to have a SQL script go through and add a 'household alias' of the A2 for any households that had different last names for A1/A2. I don't know what your resources but it could be something that added those automatically on a nightly basis to help with lookup.
Just a thought.
