V11 Reporting Services error

Hello,

We have cloned our production environment for a V11 test environment.  When I tried to install the SSRS reports with TIM I get the following error:

BUILD FAILED - 0 non-fatal error(s), 2 warning(s)

C:\Users\adminjeb\AppData\Local\TessituraTemp\TessituraReportsInstaller\Installer.build(23,3):
External Program Failed: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\RS.exe (return code was 1)

TN recommended that I uninstall and reinstall reporting services in SQL2008 R2 which I did.  I reinstalled but received the same error.  When I try to resolve the url I get the following error:

The report server installation is not initialized. (rsReportServerNotActivated)

    John,

You may have already tried this, but this solution came up in a Google search with the error message you listed for SQL 2008.  In this post it is an issue of deleting the encryption keys and then resetting any connection strings (which TIM will do for our standard reports).  I haven’t ever done this myself so just passing it on as a possibility if you haven’t already found the issue (the ‘not a TN sanctioned solution’ disclaimer)

Woo boy – I did a bunch of stuff with the namespace and things like that (which is where my upgrade/uninstall issues showed themselves) but I don’t think any of that made a difference for me. It was really just finding the right path to the RS.exe and once I did that it worked. I wish I had kept a list of all the fiddles and tweaks I tried, but I was pretty much ending at the ‘hope and a prayer’ method of troubleshooting by the end. *grin*

I do remember this blog post started me down some of the namespace stuff, but that might be a rabbit hole for you.

Yup same issue here.  I created a test ReportServer db and called it ReportServer_a and created the standard url.  Worked like a charm.  We essentially did the same thing.  UP from 2005 to 2008.  I uninstalled the RS 2008 and reinstalled to no avail.  Any other ideas?

My path has to be set to:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\RS.exe

In my case it is a problem with my box being upgraded from an old 2005 RS installation and it not completely uninstalling that old install (a known MS issue apparently).

Thanks I did open a ticket and we tried that.  Where was your static path located? I created a test db of reportserver and it works ok.

Ohh.. I might have hit this error. I’d open a ticket with support, but if it is like mine it was basically looking for the RS.exe in the wrong place. I had to go into the text of TIM and change the path of the RS.exe from a dynamic one to the static one that was on my server.

Again, I’d open a ticket – because your scenario might not be mine at all!

    Sorry hit enter without finishing.

Microsoft suggests modifying the registry which I did and still no resolution.  Has anyone encountered this error?  Is it related to encryption keys?  Is it related to cloning a virtual production machine and using it for test?
