Web and Ranking

Looking for clarification on the need for Ranking when accessing ticket inventory - there seems to be some info missing and/or I'm have a brain freeze. We are told that a constituent must have a Ranking to access ticket inventory via the web. Access to inventory sounds like access to tickets on sale. Since only known constituents can have a chance of having a ranking how would the General Public be able to access tickets? I see where Ranking is a criteria in the Price rules and see that as refining the use of Ranking as well as setting the criteria for pre-sale. It would seem to me that it is only in the latter case that the General Public would be prevented from accessing tickets (pre-sale) but at all other times Ranking would normally be part of a price rule. What am I missing?
  • Thanks – this is closer to what I thought might be the case based on my reading of the documentation.

Hi Leslie - There may be some confusion about what your custom web site might need / can do vs what standard Tessitura API & TNEW functionality can do. While it is not necessary to have a web ranking to sell tickets online, you might have code within your website that changes that functionality. Most people use web ranking for pre-sales or limited access only on their websites - both custom and TNEW sites. If you have not read the help documentation that might clear up some of your questions: http://www.tessituranetwork.com/help_system_v125/content/tessitura_and_the_web/ranking.htm. I'd also recommend posting this question to the Web Forum which is dedicated specifically to web questions.(http://www.tessituranetwork.com/Community/forums/60.aspx) Cheers, Heather
