Hey Everyone!
I am evaluating our current Gift Membership process to see if there is a way to make it better. I would love to hear how your museum, zoo or aquarium does gift memberships. Right now we use Contrib-2 on TNEW for gift memberships, the money goes to on-account and the recipients information is collected via the form that creates a CSI. On the backend we apply the on-account money in contribution entry to assign the membership to the recipient. Does anyone do a different process? I would love to hear about it!
Thanks!

Hello Samantha! This is Kelsey with Tessitura Network Support. We’re happy to assist you with this question. I’ve created a Support ticket where we’ll work with you to find a resolution to this. We’ll also relay our findings from that ticket in this forum post, but if you have any other questions or concerns in the meanwhile please let us know!
Hi,
We do it the way you describe.
I'm looking for a way to identify gift membership recipients to exclude them from email lists (at least until they receive their gift which may be a surprise).
Hi Nathaniel - we use the benefactor field of gift memberships to ID these gift memberships & combined with membership initiation date make sure that we don't communicate with these members until after that date so as not to spoil the surprise!
Hi Samantha,
We process our gifts the same way. Were you all able to incorporate any different processes to make gift membership data entry easier?

Hey Angela,
Unfortunately no. After reviewing and testing the process we are currently using is the best process for this. The only real change could have been having the money going directly to fund however that ends up being more work for our Membership Manager because she would have to go in and adjust the gift instead of just applying the money from on-account.
Nathaniel, we do the same. We use the Benefactor field to exclude those memberships as well. I didn't even think of using the initiation date as Jo explained to help with timeframe management for communications.
Late to the conversation but I wanted to note that you can also use the Gift Certificate payment setup for Gift Memberships. We've renamed it as Gift Memberships and sell them via web and in person. We track whose purchased it and whose redeemed it via the Gift Certificate number. You can in theory purchase tickets with it but that's not been an issue.
That is very true! We played with this idea but we moved against it since it would be too complicated for our finance department. However, it is a great idea. I wish we could restrict gift certificates to certain things, that would make life incredibly easy!
