Restructuring Memberships

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with restructuring membership organisations?

Since taking over this role, I have come to realise that our current membership structure is incorrect and we have two organisations instead of 1 multi-level organisation. I have management on board to conduct the restructuring as we will then be able to track movement between the two membership groups which we cannot do currently.

The one thing I am wondering about is, when I create the new membership organisations and set the level values and subsequently inactivate our old incorrect organisations - would we have to wait until the members renew their  memberships to move into the new organisation. Or by inactivating the current organisation, will that make Tessitura associate the the current membership level the members are on and associate them to the new organisation at equivalent level? This is the only part of the process I can't seem to find out how it will work.

Thank you in advance for any advice/experience.

  • Hi Ethan,

We went through something similar earlier this year.

    • Inactivating a membership level does NOT impact any active memberships at that level. However, if you EDIT memberships at that level (including adding contribs to it), the level will swap to the equivalent membership level that is currently active. And, of course, no new memberships will be created at the inactivated level.
    • You should be able to just add tiers to one of the Membership Orgs you already have--that'll save you some work. There's no need to inactivate BOTH current membership orgs
    • IDK if there is a way to run a utility to update all the memberships that are at the old level to be on the new level, but it can be done manually.

    Hope this helps!
