Apply benefits upon adding membership to cart?

Hi! We'd like to have membership benefits applied to a patron's order when they add a membership to their cart. Currently, it's the case that a patron needs to purchase the membership, then go back and purchase tickets in order to have their benefits applied.

We can't seem to figure out how to use pricing rules to make this happen. We currently have our non-member price types and fees in our Web mode-of-sale, and our member price types and fees in our Member mode-of-sale, so with how we have things set up, we'd want the presence of a membership in the cart to trigger a change in mode-of-sale, which is not something we can do with pricing rules.

I'm currently talking to Tessitura consulting about helping us build a custom solution, but it's looking like it'll be pricey and I'm generally hesitant about running custom code unless absolutely necessary.

Has anyone figured out a way to apply benefits in-cart like this without using pricing rules, or using pricing rules with a different (but compatible) use of modes-of-sale?

  • Hi Julie! We are on TNEW. Alongside talking with Tessitura consulting, we're also looking at whether we can move away from using multiple modes of sale on our website and instead handle it all through pricing rules. I'll keep you posted on our progress. Also, we've started talking with SF Ballet, who I think has a custom table they're using to associate price types with constituencies in a way that would help us solve this problem. They've got a custom site, too, so what we learn from them may be more applicable for you than for us!
