Please advise: Removing Memberships/Fixing Soft Credit Issues with Membership Organizations

Hello everyone,

Has anyone else come across issues with soft crediting a gift when it has a membership organization attached to it?

The issue is this - Donor makes a gift through their Donor Advised Fund and I would like to enter the gift in an account specifically for the DAF and credit the individual; however, because this is part of a Membership Organization, I cannot do this. I would like to deactivate all memberships since we only use them for two small annual fund campaigns. Has anyone had an issue deactivating these? Did this interfere with web-based gifts? Have you found a work around for keeping memberships and still being able to soft credit an individual from the DAF account?

Some additional information for you: I am setting up DAF accounts as "Foundations", because they technically are not people.

I am establishing an association/affiliation between the Community Foundation at which the DAF is held and the individual/household from whom the gift was directed.

Do account types also interfere with this process?

Thank you!
