We are looking at beginning to offer auto renew and monthly payment options for memberships. While I feel like we mostly understand what we are getting into and the process around, well, processing these memberships, I was hoping to hear from institutions that have been running these programs on best practices/what worked (or didn't) and potential pitfalls.

We have an annual auto-renew option for our memberships. Our memberships are set up as products (vs using the Membership functionality in Tessitura). One thing that has worked well for us is setting up a pricing rule so memberships on auto-renewal that do not go through because of credit card issues can be renewed by phone, on the web or at the Box Office and receive the correct auto-renew price automatically. The pricing rule is triggered by being on the list of auto-renews for that month.
