Membership Status Dates - Backdating

I am seeking advice on how other museums handle lapsed memberships. 1) Do you offer a 60 or 90 day window before officially dropping the membership? 2) Do you adjust their expiration date based on their new payment date or do you allow Tessitura to backdate it to their original expiration date? Example: 6/30/17 expiration, member pays on 8/15/17. Tessitura goes back to original membership cycle and sets expiration date to 6/30/18. We are new to Tessitura and new to this idea of backdating. 3) Is it possible to still allow a member to renew, either within a 60 or 90 day window and also update the expiration date to reflect their payment? Example: 6/30/17 expiration, member pays on 8/15/17. Expiration date is 8/31/18. Thanks in advance for sharing insight. We consider the membership lapsed the day after their expiration date if they haven’t renewed, no window before the membership is expired. If they lapsed on 6/30/17 and renew 8/15/17, Tessitura automatically adjusts the expiration day to 8/31/2018, it doesn’t back date for us to the previous cycle’s expiration. It could be the way you have memberships set up. Here’s a screen shot of how ours are set up:
