Membership Join Reason

Hello,

Do you record the reason why someone became a member? I.e. for the benefits, for priority booking, for access to members bar?

I was thinking of maybe using Sources, as we are not using them for their intended way at the moment (but I would like to start). We have also thought about using CSIs OR I was thinking about having a play with Order Surveys.

Just wondering if anyone else is doing this and which way.

Thanks,

Kelly

We don't here, but if we did, I'd perhaps recommend re-purposing the unused* membership record "Ship Method" dropdown.

    * Unused here, anyway. Does anyone track membership-related magazine subscriptions?

  • Hi Kelly,

We do track that using CSIs. We have a CSI Category of "Donor Motivation" and we used the Activity Type field to track the most common reasons we hear (because of the artistic programming, donor benefits, desire to support the arts, or other).  The only place we actively ask this is on our website. On our contribution page we have on optional poll question that asks what motivated them to support. The percentage of people who fill it in is pretty low but we do get some. It is nice though, for the feedback we have captured, to be able to pull the CSI report by activity type so that we can see volume and narrow down to just what we are looking for.

A large part of why we chose to do it this was was actually to capture anecdotal feedback that we could use in appeals or other materials.  To get a larger sense of the motivations of our donor base we have relied on larger audience and/or donor surveys.

  • Thank you for your responses. I think we are going to go down the CSI route. Does make sense to capture those extra bits of info.

Laurel - Very interested about possiblity of doing this online also! We are in the early stages of implementing TNew so I think I will be adding this to the list post Go Live!
