Restrict a Source/Promo Code to a List

What kind of options are there to restrict a source code/promotion discount to a specific list of people?  For example if a promotion is sent to a list of subscribers, the code cannot be passed along and used by other people.  I'm assuming (and hoping) there a multiple ways this can be achieved through Tess/the web.

Thanks,

  • I think that the way it works is that the rank moves the patron to a different MOS. So only the constituents who have the correct rank are able to access the special price attached to that MOS. It sounds pretty tricky to use, though, because according to the “Rank Based Mode of Sale Shifts” page in the documentation, you’d need to add the special MOS to all for-sale items, because a patron’s rank would automatically shift him/her into that MOS. So the rank switches you into the MOS whether or not you use the promo code.

    Hi Lucie,

Good point - I did think of using rankings.  However, wouldn't this lock down the entire product to that list of names?  This could work but I'm not sure if it would allow the product to be available to anyone but only the discount tied back a list of constituent IDs.

Could you use rank? You could assign a rank type to everyone on your list, then require that rank on the web. I’ve never done this myself, but it is built in, I think.

  • I just looked over that documentation. It seems as though a promo code may not be required at all.  If the patron with that rank logs into the website, would it automatically shift to a different mode of sale having the discounted pricing available?  Seems tricky but could work to restrict promotions to the correct group of people.
