Do you have online Membership Management?

(I am posting this on both the devo forum and here, as there seems to be a fairly equal divide between marketing vs development depts managing their organizations membership groups)

Hi there. I'm wondering who out there has provided their patrons with the ability to login and view their membership/general acct information online? If you have done this, could you please share how? Via a 3rd party who built this for you? Is there a pre-existing events and membership management software from which you created a bridge to Tessitura?  (I have looked at the 2009 census results but would like some new feedback if it's out there.)

The development staff at New World Symphony is reaching its limits in what it can continue handling via internal data entry and update when it comes to our Friends of New World young professionals membership program. Benefits this group receives are special pre and post concert events, the ability to purchase tickets to these events for their friends that are not currently Friends members, the option to purchase a specially designed Friends Subscription.

Currently you can create an acct with us online, purchase tickets, make a general annual fund donation or purchase merchandise. Our membership and events team is very interested in the software Wild Apricot, even if it must be a mid-step between our current situation and a truly Tessitura integrated online membership/rsvp management function.

In total, we are looking to dramatically augment the patron online experience to acheive the folllowing:

- Membership purchase, renewal & upgrades

Event RSVP function

- Personalized calendar showing events related to the membership as well as concerts for which the member has tickets

- summary of benefits at corresponding level

If we can acheive the above for the Friends program then we will happily roll it out to our non-membership donor groups of a certain level and higher.

Thanks in advance for any info you can share!

  • I'm in the middle of web redesign and we'll be displaying current membership level and some basic information, but not allowing for upgrade / renewal (business rule decision not technical).

I think the API could handle all of what you are looking to do with a combination of 'out of the box' methods and perhaps some custom procedures.

The API can handle membership purchase, upgrade, and renewal to a limited degree. You'd just need to investigate it to make sure it works with your business rules.

Depending on how you booked events you could fairly easily display a calendar that would show the events they are attending. Could either be done through actual event setup and a GA house or something customized.

If it were me - I would definitely try to do everything through Tessitura if at all possible and avoid bringing in third party software. But that's just me :)

    Good luck!

  • Michelle,

These are all things that could be done with Tessitura now.   I’d be happy to discuss what we do at the Kennedy Center and National Symphony Orchestra.

Thanks so much for your quick responses. We're finally coming up for air here at NWS after the move into our new facility and I'm trying to jump back into all things Tessitura with both feet! I thought this must be easier to do these days. I remember at the 2008 Nashville conference attending the E-Philanthropy webinar and seeing variations on this theme. National Ballet of Canada particularly comes to mind.

Alan, I would definitely like to take you up on your offer to talk about how you handle this at NSO/Kennedy Center. Perhaps we could set up a conference call? I'd like to ask our VP of Technology and web developer to join.  I will send you an email to coordinate.

    Thanks again to both!
