Surveying the Tess Hive Mind

How do you feel about pop ups on a performing arts website as a lead generation tool? Do they create engaged leads? Do you think they convert or do they just bulk out lists and ultimately increase bounce rates? Do you use a carrot (sign up and save?). I am interested in having any and all input -- good, bad, and oh hell no!

Many thanks in advance,

Michaela

  • I don't mind them when they are tasteful, easy to dismiss, and smart — for example, you could make sure to auto-suppress (and persist that suppression) when your site notices that it is being accessed from a link containing a tracking tag from your email program. It feels pretty silly to get an email from a list, click a link in that email, and then be immediately prompted to sign up for the exact same list!
