Tracking Online Word of Mouth

We're considering a new community partnership that would most likely kick off with a contest for our email subscribers. We've seen contests where the call to action to enter is sending info on to a friend--the proof of entry just being the original referrer sending an email back to the contest sponsor saying 'i sent the email to 10 people, please enter me 10 times' or etc.

I'm already looking at the FTAF functionality in TMS/Wordfly, but would like to hear if anyone else had already tackled this type of word of mouth promotion--in email, on their website, and other interaction points. Ideally, I'd love to have it all land back in Tessitura in a way I can easily pull a list.

In short, anyone sponsor a referral campaign (email or not)  they're proud of and willing to share?

    We did a campaign with the young performers in our cast of THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER this past december where each of them was given a source code to give to family and friends for purchasing tickets. We then tracked to see which family had brought in the most ticket sales using the Revenue by Source & Appeal report.
