Naming Conventions Documentation

Hi everyone!

This has probably been posted about before, but does anyone have any documentation on your organization's naming conventions (lists, extractions, campaigns, appeals, etc.) that you would be willing to share?

Also searching for new ways we can utilize source groups - any advice?

Thanks!

  • Jennifer,

In our consortium, we try to use prefixes that help denote the owner of some piece of information in the database (even though everything is control grouped anyway). So, as an example, anything at the Campaign or Fund level that is for the Tulsa Ballet is prefaced with a "B". No other organization can see those Campaigns or Funds, but it helps at the consortium level to know where those things need to be integrated.

For Lists and Extractions, we typically use a naming convention where the person who created it uses their three letter name abbreviation (in my case, BJP) and then a short description of what that's for. For Lists and Extractions which might be persistently used by the organization, I took to using "TBT" as a prefix (short for Tulsa Ballet Theatre, the full organizational name).

Not sure if this is helpful or just adds some more options to consider, but hopefully it's the former!

    Thank you,

    Brian
