Records with no Postal Address

The Web is a wonderful thing but it has resulted in far to many records with No postal address.   I've been making my way thru a few records (100K+ due to no prior clean up/oversite).

The BO or Web create records with only an email (or BO often neither postal or email).  These records with no address have a Mail Restriction of "No Address", Street1 is ***No Address***  and the zip is our zip code 10019.

The result of course is that our zip code statistics are distorted.  While we can instruct/remind folks to manage this zip accordingly - I'm wondering if any site has found a way to isolate them better.

I almost want a separate zip code to be applied possible after review OR separate country UNKNOWN.

Continous review and clean are needed I understand but really would like a good way to isolate the Unknown geo folks.  And knowing what others have done can boost my suggestions here.  Thanks

  • Hello,

We have institued something similar. We have an address type of "Address Not Given"  that is supressed from mailings. Street 1 is simply ANG, the Locale is ANG and we just use five zeros in place of the zip code after changing the country from USA to blank (techinally then i dont think you even need the zip code if the country is blank).

  • The (flimsy) reasoning behind using our own zip code along with No Address is that walk-ups probably live locally.

Similar to what Tim says, the SBCPA uses 99999 (BUT that's apparently a real zip code!), though we haven't split that out anywhere special in Geographic Area.

We also just removed the requirement to have an address, so instead of fake addresses, some records have no address at all.  I'm not sure where people like that would show up in T-Stats splits.

  • I can confirm that 99999 is not a real Zip code. 99950 is the highest valid USA Zip.

  • Mike,

The default behaviour in T-Stats if the constituent has no address (or has an address but the postal code in it is null) would display the value (unknown). However, the null replacement here is configurable and may display something else if you have set it to do so. You can review this in the Tessitura System Tables module by reviewing the table TX_TS_ELEMENT_DIVISION. If you find the row for the element Postal Code and scroll to the right, you should see the null_value column. The value in that column is what you can expect to see in T-Stats if a constituent does not have a value for the element in question.

Using your own Zip also really skews the data. We have a fake State that is XX with the Zip 99999.

  • That’s what folks are discovering.  I really appreciate everyone’s input.  Been doing MAJOR clean up of data due to no procedures in place for some time.    Everyone’s feedback on this issue is really great.
