Different memberships for same price

Our membership people want to be able to offer different memberships that have the same donation amount. For instance, a payment of $25 can be either a Teacher membership, or a special membership for Volunteers.

I can't figure out how to make this work with the Membership set up in Campaigns. Has anyone done this? If so, how did you handle getting the correct Acknowledgement to each membership?

  • Hi Steven,

I believe you could have two memberships at the same level, but they would have to be in two different Membership Organizations, and that would mean you also need two different Campaigns.  That is probably not the answer you wanted to hear.

In order to get the right Acknowledgement when you have two memberships of the same level I think you would have to check, and re-assign if needed, every time you do a gift entry at that level.

Hopefully someone with more Membership experience has a better answer.

    Good luck.

    Jared

  • Jared,

Thanks for your reply. I doubt that we'll want to set up new Membership Organization or Campaign, but I'll pass this info to membership.

  • Steven,

It is possible to have memberships that are the same amount.  In contribution entry the system will select one of the membership levels and the user would have to manually change to the other.  Acknowledgments have a membership level setting so for memberships that are the same amount you will need to create one acknowledgment rule for each membership level (if the letters are different).  In v12.1 it will be possible to specify the membership level in ticketing orders through QuickSale creating membership buttons for each level.  Also in 12.1 you will be able to send a membership level through the web using a new SOAP API call that has an optional membership level parameter.  In v12.5 we will be adding the ability to specify a membership level on the contributions tab in ticket orders.

    Best,

    Anna

  • Thanks Anna!
