Promoting Extra Customers to a Source

Here's a question - let's say I want to set up a source code that I can use a few times as a promo. But I want to be able to send out these offers regularly (say, once a week) to a new list each time.

Is there a way in Tessitura to add extra customers to an already-promoted source?

If not, and I build a custom utlility that can add the source, what are the ramifications of doing that?

  • This is an issue I have, but with a different usage case:

In order to do an offer we need a source to attach to the offer and also for a promo code.  In order to get a source we need to pull an extraction and promote it.  This means that we have to do all of the offer setup _after_ the extraction is pulled.  But we want the extraction pulled at the last minute before the offer email is sent out, as we want the information to be as up to date as possible, particularly the usual suppressions on customers who have already bought tickets to the show, and this email is often sent late at night after the box office staff who would do the offer configuration are off work/asleep.

We'd rather be able to establish a source, build our offer, and then when we run the extraction apply that pre-existing source number to it.

  • Hi Gawain,

That one I can tell you about, because we do it quite regularly here. The reason we have to do is for a DM - we need to print a promo code on it (which is the source number) a week out from when we send the list over to the mailing house. So the source number has to be settled on before we can extract the list. Here's what you do:

    1. Go into your Appeal and set up the source that you want as an Outside source. You can call it whatever you want, but you can use that source number.

    2. When you finally run your extraction, don't create a source, instead just extract it as a list to List Manager.

    3. Once you have a list in List Manager, go back to the Appeal and change the type of your source to Inhouse.

    4. You will then find that the name of the source has now changed to a drop-down which contains (in alphabetical order) every list in List Manager. Select the list you've just created.

    5. Save the change and then click the Promotions button.

    6. A box will show up saying that you need to promote that source to everyone on the list you've selected. Click the Create Promotions button and it'll promote the source.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks Matthew, I'll keep that in mind.  Unfortunately, 90+% of our promotions go out through Wordfly, so I don't think I can do the same thing there.

  • You should be able to. As long as you can access the list of people that an email went to, convert them into a List Manager list somehow, you can promote that list to a pre-existing source (as long as it hasn't been promoted to another list, obviously).
