Chargebacks and Ticket Scalpers

We have recently ran into a problem with ticket scalpers. They are ordering tickets online and waiting for the show to end. They’ll then call their bank and dispute the charge as fraud. I’ve spoken with our merchant processing company and have been informed that unless we have a signed receipt, we will always lose these chargebacks. Regardless if we are able to show that the tickets were scanned and used. They pretty much told me “that’s the risk you run when taking orders online or over the phone”

 

 

Has anyone else had these issues? If so, how were you able to combat them?

  • We've had this issue and it is very hard to combat after the fact.  We use a variety of tactics upfront to try and discourage this.  Happy to discuss this offline.  Next year (april, 2013) VISA at least is making some changes to make it easier to fight these chargebacks.  Below is the notice we received.
