Gift card incentive financial issues

We would like to offer a "cash card" incentive for certain purchasers, where they would receive something good for $20 off a future purchase of tickets.  How have others of you handled this kind of thing while avoiding the "funny money" problem it can create?

Thank you so much, Sharon Grayton, CSO

  • I like that idea, but in our case there is not an expense from a department (historically).

I'm not sure if this counts as a "funny money" solution but whenever we do this we actually
charge the amount to a payment method that is set up to bill the appropriate department,
    usually marketing.
This way we don't need to devalue the ticket and we know where the funds are coming to
    recoup the loss.

Like I said, this might be exactly what you mean by "funny money" but I hope it helps.

    Cheers!
