1) I'd like to know what financial application your organization uses.
2) Is your finance and executive team satisfied with it?
3) How long has your organization been using it?
4) Has your organization interfaced Tessitura with your financial application?
The Shaw uses Blackbaud's Financial Edge and has been since 1994.
I appreciate any responses.
Thank you!Sarah

Do you like Financial Edge? We're using Quickbooks and I am beginning to explore a conversion. It may have to wait a bit while I continue to get acclimated. I"ve only been here for one year.

I use Financial Edge here at Strathmore and QB with about a dozen other much smaller clients, so I’m definitely familiar with both applications.
Financial Edge is significantly more sophisticated than QB, which has advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, it has much more sophisticated reporting capabilities and easily accommodates lots of different projects. On the negative side, it is significantly more expensive, has a cumbersome payroll function (if you need that), and it much more difficult to learn. For a large organization, however, it is definitely a better choice than QB, but you have to be prepared to put in some serious investment in money and time.

Hi Ruth,
It’s taken me a long time to get used to it and it seems very cumbersome. I’m not sure that there is anything else out there that I would like any better. We had been on a system that was created for us and had been in use for over 30 years.
It was a difficult conversion and it seems that we are always finding new ways to work within FE. We use it for G-L, Payroll, Accounts Payable. (Our Academy uses Education Edge.)
Yours truly,
Cheryl

I would highly recommend nQativ’s Activity for financial software. We’ve been using it for a year at Opera Philadelphia and Seattle Opera has been using it for about 3 years now.

We also use Financial Edge (specifically GL, AP and Fixed Assets modules), and would have to agree with Julie from Strathmore.
FE is a very good program for medium – large size organizations. It is quite expensive and the amount of training/setup time is significant. Its reporting capabilities are extensive, though I must say require quite a bit of training to learn how to do custom reports. After you purchase the program, training is an additional cost over and above your annual support fees.
Definitely a big commitment of time and money!
