Social Media Standards & Practices

The issue of Social Media Policies has been on our radar screen as well of recent.  A colleague of mine was interested to look at this policy from IBM.  Although, it is very long it may have some things of use. http://www.ibm.com/blogs/zz/en/guidelines.html

Hello Tess Education colleagues,

The ever-recurring discussion about Social Media Standards & Practices popped up in our office today, specifically as it relates to our teaching artists & staff being Facebook friends with students under the age of 18. At this time we do not have a policy one way or the other regarding this issue, and as it happens many of our students are Facebook friends with teachers. Several of our full-time staff - myself included - use our personal Facebook accounts to help promote performances and other events and maintain communication with both students and their parents.

Our conversation shifted to the need to perhaps create a document with guidelines for staff who chose to accept friend requests from students. Does anyone else have a policy in place, or perhaps a similar document that they would be willing to share? Any input in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
