Online class registration: prerequisites, class placements and payment plans

Hello,

Are there any institutions out there who currently offer online registration for classes where there are pre-defined:

  • Class pre-requisites and/or placement levels?
  • Payment plans set up during an online registration?

We are looking to move into a fully capable online version of our current registration protocol, but are unsure of how to navigate these two very important aspects of our current procedures.

We need to ensure that students are not permitted into the wrong level or into classes for which they do not have the required pre-requisite when they register. We also currently offer several payment plan options which we will also need to set up  with an online selling feature.

Thanks,

Karin

    Hi Carrie!
Thanks for the reply. I had a look at your site and School page is great! In addition to the pre-reqs I would like to learn more about the waitlist button functionality of extracting those lists ( for example, are they date and time stamped upon retrieval in service of a first come first served mandate? )
I look forward to meeting you at TLCC and hope to chat about this in more detail 😊
    Thanks again!

  • The waitlist button adds folks to a custom tab in the event they're waiting for, and though it's not time-stamped, it populates in order of who signs up first (so the person on the top of the list was first, bottom of the list was last) so we can tell if needed. Our waitlists are designed to trigger an automatic email to everyone on the list when a spot opens up in the class, and they can then sign up on a first-come, first-serve basis.

With pre-reqs, I'll give you the nutshell explanation... We control ours through a combo of Constituency, Mode of Sale, and Ranking. First, we created MOSs for each level in our school. Then we assigned Ranks to the MOSs in order of the highest level class to the lowest.  Then we created Constituencies (with the same names as each MOS) and entered the rank of the class. Students get constituencies added to their account as they progress through the school. When they sign in, the constituency matches to the rank, which matches to the MOS, and triggers the MOS to change. In the class event, we just expire all the MOSs that are not eligible for the class, so only those in the right MOS can buy classes with prereq's. I'll have screenshots at the sessions!
