For any of those using TNEW for web sales of programs where payments may not be made up front:
We've switched to a TNEW site to sell our Education programs online this year, but many educators are not accustomed to being asked for a credit card number to secure their order. We offer a "Payment Plan" wherein the school has 30 days from date of order to make payment, but TNEW still requires that they enter credit card information, even if they intend to pay by check or NYC Department of Ed purchase order.
Has anyone found a way to message or work around this barrier to entry for teachers and school administrators? All suggestions welcome!
We also use a payment plan to get around schools paying up front for their tickets. One of the ways we message the requirement for a credit card is using the analogy of how it is like when you book a hotel room online. You are required to put a card in for the system to secure the order to your account, but we will not charge the card unless your tickets remain unpaid at the end of school year (well past the payment deadline).
While we still get questions about it from teachers ordering for the first time, we’ve definitely seen the number of questions/concerns go down over the years we’ve had this requirement. Most returning teachers know it is part of the process – and if they use a personal card instead of a school card, it is just more incentive for them to make sure they initiate the check/purchase order process with their business office.

We set our programs up to be processed under a $0.00 price type at the time of booking. Then, after the order has been placed and all the back & forth has happened to confirm with the teacher, the price type is change from the free one to one (or many) of our paid ones. Then we generate an invoice and send it out. But they are not asked to provide a card number up front. At our venue, many of our education bookings are paid by cheque from the school/school board so I think it would deter teachers from booking using their personal credit card (even if they aren't being charged at the time of order).
