Child Recipient History

Former Member
Former Member $organization

Hi all,

Seattle Opera's Education department recently began using the initiator/owner/recipient fields in our youth programs order processing. The Owner (or person who pays) is typically the household/parent, and the recipient is the child (or person who is attending). The child is a member of the household, and the order lives at the household level.

An issue I just encountered is that when the child turns 18, and potentially is no longer a part of the household but still an active individual constituent, I can't find a way to carry over their recipient history from the household since the child wasn't the transaction owner.

I.e. If a child participates in a workshop for 10 years and their parents paid (and then owned the transactions), once that child has an individual record that is not affiliated with the household, how do you see that they have participated in workshops for 10 years on their individual record? My understanding is that they will have no order history, since they are not the owners of any transactions. This poses a challenge, as we are working to track what our students' involvement is with the organization after they graduate from our programs.

So my questions:

(1) Is there a place on the constituent record that shows recipient history that I'm just not seeing?

(2) Has anyone found success in carrying over that recipient information to an individual's record after he/she breaks from the household?

I look forward to your thoughts!

  • Hello Andrew –

First Stage had been using the now-deprecated Special Request “For” field to denote students long before Recipients were a glimmer in their programmer’s eye. We have a Student History screen on the custom tab of the student constituent record that shows all of their (previously) special request and (current) recipient line items. It seems to me that it’s a copy of an old Ticket History screen.

    Hopefully that’s a little helpful!

    Best,
