Back date a donation

How can I backdate a donation in Tess to 6/30 if we are data entering it today?

  • There is a contribution date that you can back date to 6/30 and there is a posting date you can change, but the transaction date will always be the entry date.

  • Hello there,

I am having some issues finding where the 'posting date' lives on my Tessitura.  We've got some gifts that came in over the holidays that we want to make sure are marked as received in 2013.  I know the transaction date will say 2014, but my records say that changing the posting date will backdate the gifts for audit purposes, etc.  Any ideas where the 'posting date' is?

    Hi Debbie,

You set the posting date when you post the batch itself. (I believe it is in the upper right corner of the window that pops up when you are looking at the GL summaries after clicking the Post to Ledger button in Batch Administrator).

By default, the posting date is set to the current date/time.  But you can edit it before confirming the posting. So you will want to make a posting with ONLY those batches you want to backdate.

If Tessitura doesn't allow you to choose the date you need for the posting, check the "Posting Max Backdate Days" value in T-Defaults to make sure that it is large enough to allow you to select the date you need. (Posting Max Backdate Days exists to make sure that users can't inadvertently post something to long ago dates.  Some organizations keep this set at 90 days or some other small number.  Other organizations don't care and just use some large number so they never have to change it.)
