Joint Members with Different Addresses

Hello

We have recently launched a new membership scheme which includes a Joint Friend level.  Since then, we have had people joining who live at different addresses which requires a different constituent record.

The difficulty is in how to manage the benefits across the membership particularly regarding logging onto the website to purchase tickets (i.e. only 1 login / password per membership) etc.

Does anyone else have a joint membership scheme and how do you manage it when they live at 2 different addresses?

Best wishes

Ruth

  • Hi Ruth,

What we do is associate the two records, charge the membership to one and manually add a membership to the other. This is fine when customers buy a membership over the phone, post or onsite. With regards to online our website requires the user to give us the name and address of the other member, then an email is sent to the membership team who manually process the membership on the secondary record.

When it comes to renewal we have a list which the membership team run to manually change the secondary records.

    Hope this helps,

    Gary

  • Hi Ruth,

We have a cruder way of coping with this which may or may not be suitable for you.

We state in our membership details that one address must be nominated at the time of joining and this is the address where all communications will be sent. There are two main reasons why we do this:

1)The membership scheme is at a fairly low level, a joint membership is £50 and a single membership is £32. It simply isn't worth the admin to run two membership accounts.

2)A benefit of the joint membership is 2 discounts per production. If we manually set up an associated account the worry is that it would be very easy for this benefit to be abused.

We have had no problems operating this way although I appreciate depending on the levels you are talking about it may not be appropriate.
