Calculating Member Retention Rate

Hello!

I am looking to calculate the retention rate for our Friends membership program and am curious about how other organizations calculate or pull statistics on their retention rates. I'd love to hear from any users who have a good process in place.

I'm currently pulling a list of all FY11 Friends contributions and a list of all FY12 Friends contributions separately then pulling a list of those who are in both lists. I then dividing the FY11 & FY12 Friends contribution list by the FY12 Friends contribution list to get my retention rate. I'm not 100% sure that what I'm pulling is the retention rate though.

    Often overlooked are the standard Membership reports in the Membership folder.  In your case I would check out the following:

    • Membership Movement Report
    • Membership Renewal Analysis
    • Membership Renewals Report
    • Membership Statistics by Expiration Period

    Each one has a great help document to explain how they work and what the results mean.
