Mid Year selection of Auto Renewal of Membership / Contribution

If you have a Auto Renewal program at your organization, how do you handle a mid year selections of Auto Renewals with or without an additional contribution?

 

The existing gift is not going to be a pledge.  And the Auto Renewal report and pledge billing reports only looks at Pledges. 

Are you going to treat this mid year request for auto renewal as a written pledge for the coming year and entering a pledge for the coming year with an auto renewal billing type?  And then just ask for payment when it comes due?  Only the following year will the Auto Renewal report start creating the new pledges.
