Affiliation having Alias functiion

When we first starting using Tessitura there was no such thing as an Alias Type and once it was added no one seemed very interested.

Now that we are really working more with v.11 and the new Constituent module using the Alias Type is gaining interest and I suspect we will be adding some types soon.

What we are finding though is many of the Alias Types match affiliations like Shared Membership, Shared Subscription or Power of Attorney.

This brought up the thought bout would an enhancement to Affiliation that would let it be checked to treat like alias be worthwhile or are folks finding the include in search option could suffice?

Thanks for letting me muse aloud

I only see a "Include in Search Results of" checkbox for Affiliations, not Associations as many of your examples might be.

At City Center, if we felt that we always wanted an associated record to show up when we searched for the other member of the pair, we would both create an association AND an alias.

Your example would eliminate part of that work, which would be useful.

  • Thanks  -- about a minute after I sent the post I remembered Association did not have the "include with search".    I also tested a bit a more and think the include in search confuses the search result display.   The Alias column makes helps make the results less cluttered

Create Alias or Use as Alias function on a relationship record seems to be the better way.
