I am thinking of creating an Attribute to capture individuals who are members, corporate contacts, VIPs etc who we want to be the first to know our news. They would be contacted by different members of our team (as different staff are responsible for corporate, members, trusts & foundations etc) and so this is also something that needs to be captured - could I do this by creating appropriate Attribute Values which then segment the resulting list for me? Any other suggestions or similar experiences would be great!

You may also want to consider creating a special association type for this. By associating the staff members to their assigned customers using a "first to know" association type, you would get both pieces of info into one tag. Creating the list would also be really easy, since you could pull all of the customers associated with a particular staff member.
