Cleaning the Schools List in the Research Tab

The drop-down listing of Schools located in the Tessitura “Research” Tab > “Schools” radio button is full of duplicates due to variations in spellings.  For example:

Louisiana St.
Louisiana State U
Louisiana Stat U.

We want to begin syncing this drop down with a sign up for our 35 and Under program and need to clean this list up.  It looks like the list came this way out-of-the box with the software.  Have you found an easy way to tidy up this list and would you mind sharing those details with us?

Much appreciated and apologies if you already received this post on the Marketing Forum!

  • I'm not saying this is the easy way to do it but I did to a big cleanup of this table for us last summer. I had my patron development team give me a list of schools that they felt were most common for our patrons. I also did a quick google search of the top Canadian and American universities/colleges and asked them to review that list as well.

Then I inactivated everything that didn't make the cut making sure I only left one variation of a school name active (which was the tricky part!).

It was a little bit time consuming but not as horrible as I thought it would be. Plus I'll never have to do it again now! :)
