While reviewing associations for press contacts I noticed that the associated individuals did not appear among the linked Org record's associations. In the TR_XREF_TYPE table the Mcounterpart and Fcounterpart fields are blank. In Test I populated the counterpart fields, but that didn't resolve the matter.
What required part of the setup details have we missed that would cause this?

Did you try adding a new association in test after you'd populated the fields? My guess is that you'd have to re-do the associations if that piece was missing when the associations were originally created.

You need to populate the counterparts and then you need to recreate the association. It won't retro-actively fix the problem.
