Merged Memberships

How do you manage donor records that have a donation in the membership history that has a status of 'merged'?

If I deactivate it and it is supposed to be active, then nothing appears on the header and I would have to add a new membership, which is not advised. I have a donor whose donation was merged recently...maybe there is something that we need to change in our merge process? Anyway, the donation is supposed to be active and when I pull a report using this membership level, this donor will not show up. In addition, this donor just downgraded and the membership history is referencing the previous year's level so they are showing up on that report as a lapsed donor, not to mention that is what is referenced in the header.

Any advice?

  • Hi Sadie,

I can't answer this completely, but I'll take a stab at it.

    1) We have a policy of keeping the record that has the current membership when we do merges.  That seems to avoid most of this problem, as my understanding is that the memberships that get marked as "merged" are the ones that are moved from Record A to Record B.  Keeping the current member record means you never mess up your active membership.

    2) As for the trending data, I assume that is going to be incorrect any time you do a merge, because obviously when the membership row was created it was not referencing the memberships that were on other record.  You should be able to go into any membership that is in a merged status and change the trending data to reflect the full history of the record, if the ROI is there for you.

Let me know if that helps...

    Beth
