Membership Level Date Rule Q

Hello all,

I am looking for a bit of wisdom on setting the Renew/Expire/Reinstate/Lapse dates for a Membership. If it can be done, then I am sure it would be very helpful to others.

I am trying to set the values in the Membership Organization so that:

  • If the customer has previously held expired Memberships, then the Initation date is set as if it was a brand new Membership.
  • if the customer has a current active Membership, then the Initation date is set to be after the Active membership expires, thus creating a Pending membership.

I am sure that there is way to do this, but I can't seem to crack the logic.

Thanks everyone,

Nicholas

  • Hi Nicholas,

Is there a particular part of this that you're having trouble with?  It looks to me like this is exactly how my membership org works; I think the key is setting your lapsed field to 0.  That way when a membership expires, any new membership will trigger a new initiation date based on the date of the membership sale.

If you've tried that and it's not working, let me know and maybe there's some other piece involved.

  • Hi,

We were looking at setting our lapsed period to 0 recently but found that it affected our membership renewal reports and notices. Once a membership is inactive, the reports won't pull those membership records.  So, we manually change those expiration dates that are not correct.

  • Thank you so much Beth and Kathy for the great responses :)

I think the culprit may be the scheduled Membership Update Utility falling off the band wagon a week ago without anyone realizing. I am going to get a copy of the 'T_MEMB_UPDATE' table to confirm.
