Third Party Event Donations

How do you process and credit third party donations? Two examples:

1. Event donation processing from an organization that is not a nonprofit: ActiveNetwork.com receives donations from road race participants and remits the funds less a fee and processing charge.

2. An online charitable giving channel, which is also a nonprofit, like JustGive.org receives donations and forwards the amount to the nonprofit.

Thank you.

  • If we were to get a donation like the one from ActiveNetwork, we would process the full amount of the gift by using two payment methods, one for the check amount (or whatever) and another we pull on to make up the fees. This way the creditee is recognized for the full amount of their gift.
This gift would be processed within the third party account and credited to the appropriate patron if known.

    Disclaimer:
Not having done an event like this I'm not sure if there are any additional caveats to consider, but for gifts made that involve a fee, this is what we do.

For example two, we again would process the gift in the third party account and credit the appropriate patron if known.

If not known (for either example), we have an anonymous patron setup in our system that we credit for gifts like this.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but I hope it helps.

    Cheers!
