FW: Anonymous gifts

Good morning,

I have been asked to inquire how other organizations handle Anonymous gifts when processing the funds.   Thanks in advance for your insight on the subject.

Thanks,

  • Bobby,

We put the contribution on the donor’s account and then on the program listing we type in “Anonymous” as the program name.

    Marie,

First thanks to everyone that has shared their thoughts.  We know who the donor is but they are making the gift as Anonymous.  In the past we have put all  anonymous gifts on a record of Anonymous.  It is now being suggested that we put the anonymous gift on the Donor record with the Program listing of Anonymous.  Which I see now that some organizations are doing the Anonymous  Programs Name listing.  I believe our business rules are about to change.

Which brought up another question in our meeting today, if the Donor says, I wish this $100,000 gift to be anonymous, can it be color coded to show it as Anonymous?  Seems like I saw something like this at one of the conferences.

    Thanks,

    Bobby Moseley

When you say Anonymous, do you mean that your organization does not know who the gift is from, or that the donor wants to assume anonymity in publications?

    Just chiming in -

When we add Anonymous program name listing to constituents, we change the sort name to "^Anonymous/NAME".

The ^ ensures that in a report output the Anonymous people are sorted at the top. [Similarly, if you want Anonymous at the bottom of your listing use sort name "zzAnonymous".]

The "/NAME" in the sort name helps us identify who the anonymous listing belongs to whenever there are multiple anonymous givers in the output set without including name fields in the output.

    Cheers,

    Tamiko

It's supplemented with an custom nightly procedure that updates the Donation Level associated each program name. For Anonymous Listings: We manually update the Preferred Name field to "Anonymous" and change the sort name (still under Program Names) as posted above for ease of use. We do NOT change the sort name under the General Tab.
