Help!
Can anyone tell me if the Source that you select for a pledge payment matters? The scenario is this:
Donor makes pledge 2005 - the appropriate source is chosen for the pledge.
2006 They make a pledge payment - the source that was used for the original pledge is no longer available/relevant.
Do we:
a. Choose a generic source of "Pledge Payment"
b. Make sure all source groups associated with a pledge are available, and choose the original source associated with the pledge. or
c. It doesn't matter what I choose because it won't change or affect the pledge and its original source in any way.
It doesn't seem like it matters, but am worried that this may be unknowingly messing up my appeal reports.

It depends on the report you run and the mode you use. The source you use when you enter the initial pledge contribution is recorded in the T_CONTRIBUTION table and is not changed by the sources you use for later pledge payments. The source you use for the pledge payments are recorded to the T_TRANSACTION table. Most of the source reports only look at the T_CONTRIBUTION table, so the source you use for the pledge payments are not reflected on those reports. The Campaign Appeal Revenue Expense report (renamed Revenue by Source and Appeal in v9) gives you an option between looking at the T_CONTRIBUTION table or the T_TRANSACTION table. If you select the T_TRANSACTION table it will reflect the sources you use for the pledge payments. And if you have custom source reports it completely depends on how you write your reports.
I would say that you should use whatever source is appropriate for how the pledge payment came it. So if it is from bills you sent out, use the source created by the bills. That way if you want to look at that detail you can. But if you just want to look at the sources used for the original contribution you will still be able to do that too without any problems.
