Acknowledgement letter template anyone?

Didn't know if this may be useful for anyone but I just finished editing our master acknowledgment letter template - so if anyone's in the process of creating a merged document and would like an example of some approaches we may take as far as coding, click away:

    Hello,

    We have been having issues with ack letters.  Random errors merging and stuff like that.  did you experience weirdness and then write a new template?

    What types of errors do you get? A couple I've seen are:

    1. If I enter notes in contribution entry and hit return so they become two lines, then that second half of the note becomes a new row in excel rather than staying with the notes column and merging all together. We've decided to write all notes on one line & that's resolved the issue.
    2. When adjusting a gift, and generating an ack - the column will say Manual Selection instead of pledge, gift, pledge payment, etc - which throws off our template. We've started to check the excel file and manually edit this field before merging.
    3. The contribution date & transaction date seemed to alternate when we were pulling letters around the end of December. The person who ran the acks changed the dates manually before I got to look at it in Tessitura so this may have been misread on their part - but it's something to watch out for just in case.
