I have a few constituents with "preferred names" for the program lists that are longer than is allowed in the preferred name field.
Does anyone else have this same issue or (more importantly) a solution?
Thank you in advance for your input
Adam
Just thinking aloud, here (although we have this situation, too, currently handled by having someone on staff who remembers the one person with this situation and completes the listing manually when needed).
You could create a special Note type called Program Book Name and then in the Preferred Name field on the Program Lists/Preferred Name screen, put “Notes” (without the quotation marks), then write a custom program book listing report to pull Notes value whenever the Preferred Name is ‘Notes’. If you have more than one type of program list (such as Individual, Corporate, Endowment) you could set up a different Notes type for each (and make sure your custom report knows how to distinguish them).
Has anyone done something like this?

A lower tech way to handle it is to simply put REQUIRES SPECIAL LISTING (or words to that effect) in the field so that when the lists are pulled you know to go find the answer somewhere else. That way you don’t have to be a Tessy expert who knows how to write special code!
