Membership Auto-Renewal Utility - Who Uses it?

Hey folks,

I'm looking to speak with anyone who actually uses this utility in regular practice.  FTC is considering implementing and auto-renewal option, and i'm looking for feedback.

Post call or email!  Thanks.

  • Hi

We use it to renew our customers who pay for their membership each year by direct debit (similar to CC billing). Its been very useful and has saved us hours of work, as we would have otherwise had to renew each Direct Debit customer manually. The only issue we have found with it has been on the occasion we decided to increase the membership costs, we found the auto renewal report replicates the contribution and the by product of this is that a new memberships is created, so it carries over the price the customer paid last year.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Mark,

That is very helpful.  I guess it would really complicate upgrades and downgrades too!  Regarding the pricing change issue, does the person get issued a membership equivalent to the current contribution level (presumably a level below their last contribution)?  Or do they still get the same membership they had and the same price they had?

  • Hi Mark,

We do the direct debit membership renewals similar to the way you do, but I have a query about the renewal letters.

Do you to two batch's of renewal letters?

one to people who have a direct debit telling them it will renew automatically on x date.

another to people who are not direct debit asking them to renew

Or can you do one renewal letter with a clever if statement to have different wording for the direct debit people?

    many thanks,

    Dara
