I am trying to enter a gift note on a contribution and keep getting the validation error. I know there is a character limit, though am not exactly sure how many characters constitutes the limit. I did a quick community search and can only find information in regard to some ticketing windows or validation error questions that have gone unanswered. So, some questions ...
Do you happen to know ...
1. The character limit for contribution gift notes?
2. Does using special characters create this error as well? If so, which special characters?
3. Does documentation exist specifically in regard to validation errors throughout the system? I sometimes encounter this in other areas as well and would love to have a reference document handy that explains the error in detail as well as the parameters that creates this error.

Hi Amber; I have entered special characters into gift notes before with no problems, so I don't think that is your issue.
During gift entry you hit a hard limit when entering gift notes. I don't know how many characters but it's about four lines of that screen.
I see that Tessitura does not cut you off from typing any more when editing gift notes from the Constituent -> Contribution screen. However, I believe the character limit is probably the same.
I never saw this documented, but you're right that it can be frustrating. You might want to test the types of notes you want to leave in a contribution batch (or count out the character limit?) to see if that gives you an idea of what you have to work with.
