Soft Credit Applied to a Pledge

Hi all,

A pledge was set up for Board dues in one constituent account, but a corporation paid some of it in the middle of the fiscal year. Is it possible to apply soft credit from the corporate account specifically to the board dues pledge?

Help!

  • Hi, Helen!

This issue happens to be one I’m interested in myself just now.

If I’m reading the forum correctly [Ryan Rowell on 8/5/2009 responding to this very question], you’d have adjust the pledge in the creditee’s account downward, then soft-credit that amount of the pledge (including the payment) from the corporation’s account.

  • We enter the payment as a gift from the corporation, soft-credit to the Board member (through the membership tab if it's a membership-associated pledge) with the ref# of the Board member's pledge in the notes, and then perform an adjustment on the Board member's pledge to decrease it by that same amount with a note like "8-2-11 JR s/c for $x payment from Spumco, Inc."
