Pending Membership Constituency

We’re looking to activate our default membership constituency before the membership initiation date.  Is it possible to auto-generate a constituency record at the creation of a Pending membership record in the same way a constituency is automatically generated at the creation of an Active membership record?

For expiration purposes, we set our initiation dates to the “first of next month”, so there is often a lag time between when a brand new member gives us $$$ and when the membership/constituency activates (days or weeks when the member record is neither Active nor Current).

Our team has discussed solving this by manually changing membership start dates at gift entry, or by running a nightly constituency procedure (or the Manage Constituency report), but ultimately we would prefer something that is automatic and immediate.

Is this wishful thinking?  Thanks for any insight.

  • The way we have looked at it is – the header shows the “greatest” or “newest” membership activity at level and exp date  BUT the constituency shows the membership privileges to which a member is entitled.

This means if a member’s active membership thru say 6/11 is Patron and is entitled to use the Patron lounge BUT sadly recent renewal was down to a Fellow which does not have access to the lounge.    The Constituency of  Patron – lets the folks monitoring access to know they are still allowed access.

List and Extracts are done looking at either current or greatest level or constituency as appropriate.     You really can use this “disparity” as an extra monitoring tool

I have a list that I run that looks for the Patron constituency but with downgraded level (lower constituency).   This gives a quick and easy snapshot (especially after a rate increase) of how many folks are reducing their gifts.

  • You raise a good point, Leslie.  Our main concern was first time donors who are sometimes missed when less sophisticated users generate lists, etc.  Thanks for your feedback!
