Membership Expiration Date Set Up

Hello!

We are thinking of making a small change in how we record memberships.  What we would ideally like to implement is that any gift we receive which upgrades an active membership would also extend the expiration date of the membership.  For example, if the membership starts in January 2011 and expires December 2011 (we have a 12 month membership period), but the membership is upgraded in March 2011 we would want the new expiration date to be February 2012.

Does anyone know if this is possible to create this in Membership Organizations?

Thanks!

You can manually adjust the expiration date, either during the contribution entry of the upgrading gift or in the patron's record in History -> Memberships.

This probably isn't something you want to happen automatically.  We have in the past credited members at a higher level because we knew they had a second gift on the way in a few months, so that would give us the opposite issue.  It's best to make all of these adjustments manually.  Tessitura will adjust the member level on its own, but the recognized amount and expiration date don't change unless you change them.
