Membership Department question

Former Member
Former Member $organization

Hi everyone,

This isn't really a Tessitura question, but something I'd like to put out to the members out there. I have an organizational structure question for you- I know in some places membership lives in the Development Department and in some places it lives in Marketing. Do you know of any organizations where it's in both (or perhaps somewhere different altogether)?

Thanks for your insight.

  • Hi Emily,

Out transactional membership scheme (priority booking, no fees, monthly diary, members bar) is run by a team who work in the marketing department. Out supporters scheme (as transactional but with special events and the like) is run by the development department.

Let me know if you want any more details,

    Gary

  • At the Science Museum, my program, which is the "basic" membership program (very focused on the value people get from the membership) lives in Marketing.  There is also a "Supporting Membership" program, which deals with higher-level gifts, that lives in Development; as the gift amount gets larger, the gift is less and less about value and more and more about philanthropy.  But they are still called members, and they use the membership module in Tessitura.
