online fundraiser tickets

What is the best way to sell fundraiser tickets online?  Should it be set up as a performance but have the money go on account to be processed later as a contribution?

  • Hi Marta,

That sounds great!  How did you set that up, was there a lot of customization on your part?  Are the donors “buying” tickets under the Event listing page of your website or do you handle reservations somewhere else?

    Thanks,

    Shelley Salinas

    Shelley,

We process our event registrations online. What we do is have the donor purchase their tickets which we have go live into the contribution module into the correct Elevated Event campaign and event fund (not on account) and then a CSI is created which lists the donor and guest names as well as an dietary/special needs they may have noted. Then our staff goes in and runs a CSI report and updates in History/Events to include the guest names, # of guests and changes the status from invited to attending.

It means the online rsvps aren’t 100% what we want them to be but to the donor its completely seamless and appears to be, we just in the office need to do a little manual entry.

I'm going to be 2 for 2 today.

Shelley, I assume you're talking about the total gala/fundraiser ticket amount that includes a donation.  There are certainly organizations that sell tickets to galas/fundraisers like a ticket.  Because we split our gala gifts into a contributed fund and a non-deductible fund and because we manage our galas in elevated events, we have found it easiest to have their money go on account like our other web donations.  The only slightly problematic part of this is that you will need to set something up to indicate that this on-account money is for a gala and not just a straight donation (if you get other donations from the web as On-Account money).   This can be done in a number of different ways.  You could have a completely separate On-Account Payment Method  (for example you could have something like "On-Account - donation" and "On-Account - Gala") or you could have a CSI automatically created to indicate that this is a gala gift.  Or you could do both like we do.

I'm sure others will have suggestions for you as well...
